It’s been a while since I participated in the Foodie Penpal program, coordinated by “The Lean Green Bean” blogger Lindsay Livington. You can check out her blog at www.theleangreenbean.com.
The Foodie Penpal program started small with 30 participants in the first month. Now the program has over 1,000 blogger and reader participants in the US, Canada and the UK.
Here’s a detailed explanation of the program (taken from The Lean Green Bean website):
-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
So here is my big reveal!
My Foodie Penpal was Pam Vaughn. A women I’ve never seen or met in person. Pam and I began trading e-mails almost instantly and developed a really nice relationship. As you all know, I’m not the easiest person to shop for foodwise as I am vegetarian and try to stick to a vegan diet most of the time. It was Pam’s first time participating in the program, so being a newbie I communicated with her a little about my experience.
Last week I received the most awesome array of treats, which are pretty much gone, with the help of my boyfriend Chad.
Here is what I received:
- Panda Blueberry Licorice
- American Bounty Berries & Cherries Nut Crunch
- Simple Truth Organic Banana Chips
- Sahale Veldosta Pecans with Sweet Cranberries, Black Pepper and Orange Zest
- Reed’s Peanut Butter Ginger Chews
- Simple Truth Natural Exotic Vegetable Chips (those were gone within hours)
I also received a little diagram of what Pam purchased for me and a survey on how I liked each product and any feedback I could give to her. I was very impressed by all of the thought that went into my box of goodies.
